Hidden in the Trees: An Isle Royale Sojourn

Regular price $19.95

Beautifully illustrated by former Isle Royale artist-in residence Joyce Koskenmaki.

Vic Foerster wrote his classic account of experiences on Isle Royale National Park in Naked in the Stream: Isle Royale Stories in 2010. He had visited the park for thirty years with his camping pal, Ken.

Hidden in the Trees: An Isle Royale Sojourn, his sequel encompasses more stories from the least visited national park in the lower forty-eight states and also includes his keen observations about the natural world on the mainland as well.

As a certified arborist, Vic incorporates his experiences in the field with an eye toward philosophy and human intervention with nature’s life-cycles. He looks at tree growth, injury, pests, disease and the final death of some of nature’s finest gifts. He quotes poets, ponders grand ideas, and deals with breath-taking tree diseases. He recalls his experience as an expert in a court room trial, and his humbling encounters with tree customers overcome with loss and misunderstanding.

Once again, Vic’s gift of looking at nature, at humans, at the grand design and intertwining it all in his writing brings readers to the woods to see through his eyes.
